Fugro Seacore say thank you

Newhaven Port Authority is extremely pleased to have received a letter of thanks from Fugro Seacore for the services and assistance provided whilst the company Jack-Up barge "Excalibur" was berthed in Newhaven's Western Bight recently.
The vessel was using the Port to mobilise for the Rampion Windfarm Met Mast installation and then to de-mobilise once installation was complete.
"One of the most helpful ports we have been to for a long time" commented a senior officer of the company.
The Port Authority would welcome hosting further such operations in the port and would also like to thank all the local companies and individuals that assisted to make the operation such a success. Thanks also go the local people for respecting the fenced off area of the Promenade whilst "Excalibur" was here.

Port Emergency Exercise April 2012

There was an emergency exercise held at the Port on Thursday 12th April 2012 to test the response of the Port and the Emergency Services in dealing with a fire at the Ferry Passenger Terminal. Whilst the fire crews from Newhaven and Lewes were put through their paces fighting the fire and carrying out casualty searches and rescue in thick smoke conditions, a Command and Control Centre was established at the Port Operations Building to test the management of the exercise and to consider the wider implications of such an emergency.

Representitives from the Port Authority, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, Sussex Police, Network Rail and HM Coastguard formed the members of the Command team.

An on-site debrief was held after the exercise and this is to be followed by a more formal debrief next month to evaluate the lessons learned by all participants.

Newhaven Port Authority thank all those who took part in the worthwhile experience.

Western Bight Port Operations Activity

On Thursday 29th March 2012 the MV Wilson Bilbao (88m LOA), berthed in the Western Bight alongside the Fugro Seacore Jack Up Barge "Excalibur" as part of the Eon Rampion Windfarm Met Mast installation project. The vessel discharged the transition piece weighing 42 tonnes to the barge and will shortly be discharging the 50m long monopile weighing in at 170 tonnes.

As well as involving Newhaven Port Authority staff and vessels, local marine services companies, Sub-Search Marine and Cutts Marine Ltd were also involved in ensuring the operation was a huge success and proof indeed that Newhaven is the ideal place for such operations to take place.
