In March of this year we were pleased to announce that NPP had obtained grant funding from the European Fisheries Fund and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), previously the Marine & Fisheries Agency, in order to carry out much needed refurbishment of Fishing Stage No.7 on the West Quay.
Work was expected to commence in May/June.
The original plans were then changed to increase the size of the rebuilt stage by 50% and the original contractor was unable to carry out the works required.
The plans were put out to tender with three well known companies and leaders in this type of work.

Due to the increase in cost of the revised refurbishment and improvemnts, NPP had to apply for an increase in the funding. We finally received approval of this last week and so we are extremely happy to be able to say that work to rebuild Stage No.7 will commence as soon as reasonably practicable.

We are also making plans for the continued improvement of the West Quay by effecting repairs to other fishing stages and repairs to the river bank itself.

This is a major investment of funds and shows NPP's commitment to the future of the Port for the fishing industry and the town of Newhaven in general.
