Port Masterplan Stakeholder Workshop Print
Tuesday, 17 November 2009 00:00
Local people, businesses and others with an interest in how Newhaven Port is developed have added their views to the Newhaven Port Masterplan being created by NPP.

At a day of presentations and workshops at the Newhaven Enterprise Centre on Denton Island on Monday 16th November, NPP introduced their ideas and vision for the port. Royal Haskoning, advisors on the Masterplan, were on hand to answer questions and discuss local concerns along with DMH Stallard, NPP’s legal and planning consultants.

Jane Haviland, principal consultant at Royal Haskoning, says: “Early communication is an important cornerstone to an efficient and effective consultation process.”

The event was opened by Captain Francois Jean, the port’s manager. His introductory speech set the tone for the day. “There is a real feeling of renaissance for Newhaven Port. We intend to work closely with our consultants and the local community to allow the Port to reach its full potential”

The event has been supported by local M.P Norman Baker "I am pleased with the progress NPP is making in identifying and securing a sound future for Newhaven Port, and pleased that they are seeking to involve the people of the town in their deliberations. I have been liaising for many months now with Captain Francois Jean and his team to help steer the ship into the harbour and intend to continue to do so until it is safely berthed. I believe, with a little imagination and commitment, the future is really rosy for the port."

Events such as the one held today will enable NPP to engage public opinion and future support for the port’s evolution.
