Newhaven Port & Properties are pleased to announce their involvement in this European Project. PATCH: Port Adapting To Change 1 – What is PATCH? PATCH is an Interreg IVA 2 SEAS programme, EU Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2007/2013. Creation of an attractive, accessible and competitive cross-border region, considering the fact that the logistic and maritime sector is important for the economy of these regions, it is even more important to handle these questions, related to these sectors. 2 – Objective - Considering the need to strengthen the logistic functionality of the ports within a growing cross-border freight transport market, - Considering the fundamental challenge of the economic crisis, involving direct effects on the economic development on both sides of the Channel area - Considering the development of new maritime activities and markets, The project PATCH focuses on the cross-border impact of the definition and the implementation of port strategies in a growing cross-border freight transport market. Moreover, the project wants to strengthen the cross-border efficiency and operation ability of the cooperation between the ports in the Channel area and the Southern North Sea, as hubs in a cross-border network of logistic and economic chains. Therefore the project Patch aims: - to improve the quality of the management of the participating ports, involving the cross-border economic and logistic dimension; hereby, the direct and indirect impact of the respective port master plans will be analysed and integrated on a cross-border level, considering issues like logistic capacity, internal inter-modality, economic development, employment and mobility - to improve the diversification of the economic activities in the ports and the economic cross-border cooperation, by implementing innovation in the hubs of local and regional economic development and the promotion of value added logistics - to improve the quality of the logistic operations, on both landside and seaside in order to guarantee more efficient cross-border transport corridors, considering both hardware and software of the cross-border logistic gateways within a growing cross-border freight transport market. These objectives will be realised through the implementation of a number of pilot actions in the participating ports. The projects will contribute directly to the strengthening and the improvement of the logistic and economic development of the cross-border regions, as logistics is one of the major economic sectors within the 2seas-region, and to fight the recession in the concerned region. 3 - Partnership. - Project-leader: Port of Oostende, - Port of Calais, - Port of Zeebrugge, - Port of Ramsgate, - Port of Portsmouth, - Port of Newhaven, - Sealand Seaports, - SEEDA, 4 - Definition of the cross-border activities. The actual recession makes it very clear that social and economic prosperity depend on the quality of the logistic and the economic infrastructure. The explosion of air-balloons of the virtual and financial economy has shown that economic and regional development still need sound foundations, including real entrepreneurship, professionalism and sustainable infrastructure. Therefore several actions have to be developed on cross-border in order to strengthen the role of the ports in the cross-border logistic gateways, especially as most ports have to guarantee the cross-border logistic cooperation with a minimum of staff in a transport world that is ever becoming complexes. 5 – Timing Official timing: 01/012008 – 01/01/2012 7 – Project Budget 0verall budget: 9 472 550 Euro, Requested ERDF: 4 493 600 Euro, Grant rate: 47.44%
