The newly formed Newhaven Port Users Group had their first meeting on Friday 19th February 2010 at Woody's Restaurant, Peacehaven Golf Club and the level of attendance was very pleasing. The members of the group have been chosen for their specific links to the Maritime activities of the Port and provide a forum for exchange of information and views and consultation between the Port Authority and the port Users. The meeting was opened by Port Manager Captain Francois Jean and Harbour Master Captain Dave Collins-Williams who explained the purpose of the group and of the mornings expectations. A presentation was delivered by the Port Masterplan consultants Royal Haskoning and DMH Stallard explaining what a Masterplan is and what aspirations there are for the future Port of Newhaven. There will soon be a link from this website direct to the Masterplan so progress can be monitored. There then followed a brainstorming workshop where the Port Users were asked a series of questions and asked to list their wishes for the future. The feedback so far from those that attended has been extremely positive. It is proposed to hold regular meetings and members can always contact the Harbour Master with specific issues. |
