NPP attended the above event at the Sofitel London Gatwick Hotel on Tuesday 23rd February 2010. The conference was organised by The Crown Estate and SEEDA and was designed to be a marketplace for all those involved or striving to be involved in the industry. Speakers included the Regional Minister for the South East, Jonathan Shaw MP; Dermot Grimson and Adrian Fox from The Crown Estate; Robert Crawford from SEEDA; Alan Banks from Envirobusiness; Dave Rogers and Danny Shaw from E.ON; Guy Madgwick and David Bean from Eneco; Charles Hendry MP the Shadow Minister for Energy. E.ON have recently been awarded the development of the Round 3 Zone 6 Windfarm to be constructed off the coast between Newhaven and Worthing. Eneco have been awarded Zone 7 west of the Isle of Wight. Newhaven Port also exhibited at the event with a table, banners and literature marketing the port as a prime location and site for the construction, assembly, operations and maintenance for the windfarms. The port is perfectly located and has the necessary deep water, quayside and lay down areas, with still more room for expansion to provide more berths and facilities. A windfarm base has the potential to provide many jobs for Newhaven and East Sussex and would fit in well with the Masterplan for the Port which is currently being prepared by our consultants Royal Haskoning and DMH Stallard. A productive one to one meeting was held with E.ON, but it was stressed that the windfarm planning was at an early stage. Further meetings are to be held between NPP and E.ON and with Eneco, both of whom wish to conduct a site visit in the near future. East Sussex County Council and Newhaven Strategic Network were also represented at the event and NPP would like to thank them for their promotion and support of the Port in what is hopefully going to be an exciting future for the whole of the Town and County. |
