Newhaven Port & Properties are extremely pleased to be able to announce that they have been successful in obtaining Grant Aid from the European Fisheries Fund and the Marine & Fisheries Agency. The grant money covers 50% of the cost to refurbish West Quay Fishing Stage No.7. Work is expected to commence in May/June 2010 with a completion around September 2010. The Port Authority is committed to inproving all of the West Quay Fishing Stages under their control and also carry out repairs to the West Bank itself. This is the start of a progressive campaign over the next few years and having obtained funding for this initial project we can see no reason why the plans should not be achieved. The Fishing industry is an important part of the Port, the Town and District, bringing in money, providing employment and a way of life that we wish to see continuing for many years to come. It is hoped with the help of the Fishing Community that the support of the Town and District Councils can be achieved in reaching our goals. |
