This group has been formed as a sub-group of the main Newhaven Port Users Group to enable dialogue between the Port Authority and the West Quay fishing fleet and to include the Charter vessels operating out of the Marina. The first meeting was held on the 27th April 2010 at Newhaven Lifeboat Station and thanks go to the RNLI for allowing use of the premises. The meeting was chaired by Captain Dave Collins-Williams, Newhaven Harbour Master, with David Guy (secretary of Newhaven Fish & Flake Ice Society) and David Strong (NPP Port Operations Supervisor) acting as vice-chairs. All West Quay fishing vessel operators were invited to the meeting along with a representitive from the charter vessels. A total of 15 attended and the 2 hour meeting was extremely constructive and productive for all parties. The next meeting is scheduled for October or November, and it is hoped that more will attend the second meeting having received positive feed back from those that attended. |
