Situated at the mouth of the River Ouse on the south coast of England, the marinas at Newhaven offer a welcoming and practical harbour for visiting yachts and motorboats. Well located between Brighton and Eastbourne, Newhaven is a working port with a strong maritime heritage and a growing reputation among the leisure boating community.

Mooring options

Newhaven boasts a range of mooring options for short-term visitors and longer stays. Newhaven Marina provides 285 permanent berths on floating pontoons with access at all states of the tide. Deep-water moorings are available, making it an ideal choice for keelboats and deeper draft vessels.

The approach to the marina is well-marked and lit, and access is 24-hour through the outer harbour.Visitors should contact Newhaven Marina by phone or on VHF Channel 80 prior to approach to check berth availability. Once the berth is confirmed and prior to entry, vessels should contact Newhaven Radio on VHF Channel 12 to confirm the channel is clear for entry.

Peter Leonard Marine, Denton Island and Lochin Marine in Robinson Road, also have mooring options.

Meeching Boats who are located North side of Denton Island, north of Newhaven swing bridge, offer tidal pontoon boat moorings, boatyard for D.I.Y or storage, GRP repair workshop and very competitive rates. Call 01273 514907.

Onshore facilities

Visitors to Newhaven Marina can expect a range of practical and convenient amenities. Shoreside facilities include electricity and fresh water on the pontoons, a fuel berth offering diesel, and secure gated access for berth holders. Modern showers and toilets are available, as well as basic laundry facilities.

Local marine engineers and chandlery suppliers operate in the area for those needing repairs or technical assistance. A slipway is available for trailer sailors or maintenance needs, and boat lifting can be arranged nearby.

Local amenities

Newhaven town offers a good selection of shops, supermarkets, cafés, pubs, and restaurants. A nearby train station with direct services to Brighton and Lewes also makes onward travel simple. Ample parking is available, and taxis are easily arranged.

The Newhaven-Dieppe ferry terminal, which adds to its appeal for cross-channel cruisers. The surrounding coastline and South Downs National Park offer beautiful cruising grounds and plenty of opportunities for exploration.
