ABOUT US

Port Masterplan

In 2024 we published our refreshed Port Masterplan, to build on our successes and deliver our vision of a port growing in sustainability, supporting the town of Newhaven and the wider regional economy, and being a part of the energy transition.

The port is a strong contributor to East Sussex’s sustainable economic growth by providing a low-carbon gateway for people and materials.

  • Transport by sea is the lowest emission option for cargo
  • Rail freight facilities can move cargo through the region by the lowest emission land transport mode
  • The ferry route links the south of England with France, avoiding the need for cars and goods vehicles to drive through East Sussex, Kent and northern France reducing many journeys in the UK, and Europe.
  • Newhaven is the operations base for Rampion Wind Farm and NPP’s own energy needs are partly met by solar energy generated within the port estate.

Our vision for the next 20 years is:

  • Further enhance the sustainability of NPP’s operations through increased use of renewable energy.
  • Enable NPP’s customers, both tenants within the port estate and vessel operators, to use more sustainable forms of energy, and
  • Become a hub for renewable energy production, allowing third parties to purchase renewable energy generated within the port estate.
